Vinyl Butterflies!

A while back I ran a Home Decor contest. Congratulations to Jen who was the winner and suggested the Flutter Decor Elements.  (I’ve ordered the Decor Elements she chose for her prize!) As I worked with my hubby to put them up, there were a few things that kept running through my mind:

  1. Why did I wait so long to put up some Decor Elements?
  2. I love the way this looks!
  3. This is so easy!

I think I probably sounded a bit like a broken record :)

I’ve got the Growth Chart on order, and when it arrives I’ll give you video instructions for putting them up.  For now, I’ve documented our butterfly decorating in photos. (I apologize for the funky colours, taking photos at night under florescent lighting isn’t the best.)

Decide where you want to put your Decor Elements

Decide where you want to put your Decor Elements

First you need to decide where you want to put the Decor Elements.  I highly recommend painters tape to hold the Decor Elements to the wall while you move them around and decide on final placement. The Decor Elements come rolled up in a tube. I just grabbed the roll from the tube seconds before putting them up. Next time I’m going to take it out of the tube sooner to let things flatten out. (Which should save on the amount of painters tape needed to hold a curling piece of vinyl to the wall!)

Once you’ve decided where things are going it’s time to start putting the vinyl on the wall!  Decor Elements are removable, but are not re-usable, so be sure of what you want to do before starting!

  1. Use the Applicator (kind of like a mini scraper), and rub the back of the grid paper to transfer the image onto the (clear) transfer sheet. (Sorry no photos.)
  2. Gently pull back the grid paper, leaving the adhesive side of the vinyl exposed.  Warning, it’s very sticky, so don’t let the adhesive touch itself (otherwise you’ll be down one butterfly).

Position the vinyl on the wall

  3. Position the image (with the clear transfer sheet) on the wall, (or whatever you’re putting it on).
  4. Use the Applicator to rub the image to adhere it to the wall.

    Carefully remove the transfer sheet

  5. Carefully remove the transfer sheet from the wall.
  6. And you’re done!  Who knew it could be so fast :)

I’m in love with the butterflies.  (And yes, we’re still undecided about the butterflies by the window. What do you think? Should they stay or should they go?)

I’m not sure what will be next, but right now I’m loving the Holly Berry Wreath.  I just need to find a great mirror or frame to put it on so that I can use it year after year.
