Rag Quilt Big Shot bags

It was so nice to dust off the sewing machine last weekend. Boy did it get a work out! I made four bags in two days. All the fabric was cut with the Big Shot using the Scallop Square die. I couldn’t believe how quickly we were able to cut the fabric for these projects (and more) – if you’ve ever cut fabric for a quilt before using a rotary cutter and quilters rule you know what I mean :0).

Anyways, here’s what I made.

I used up the Hallowe’en fabric that I purchased 5+ years ago, and made two trick or treat bags for the kids. When I gave my son his completed bag, he insisted that we go trick-or-treating (in our kitchen of course).

With the left over fabric from a kid’s quilt from 6 years ago I made these bright and cheery bags.

I made this bag for my Mom (she gets to add her own handle and line the bag to finish it). I sewed an X through the felt and fabric scallop squares, then sewed the squares together to make the bag. I really like the weight of this bag with the felt- it’s quite sturdy.

My bag is almost done. It’s a reversible 3×2 bag with three little pockets (also made with the scallop squares), along the bottom on both sides. To finish it off, I need to add the handle and sew the inside and outside bags together. We’ll see how this bag with two layers of cotton holds up over time.

If you’d like to me to make a bag for you, just let me know.
