Background created with Compressed Sponge Wipe technique

Here’s the fourth installment in my Techniques Thursdays. This is one of samples I created for the technique swap. The supplies needed for this background technique are:

  1. Place drops from your classic ink refill along the (rounded) edge of a dry sponge. (Tip: I usually cut my sponge into pieces so that they last longer and are a better size to hold.) Alternate two, three, or more colours of ink as desired.
  2. Pull the edge of the sponge over the glossy card stock.

You can make simple stripe patterns (shown in this example), wavy lines or even plaids!

Variations:

  • You’ll get more variations as the ink fades to lighter shades as you go along. If this is not desired, add more ink.
  • The flat surfaces of your sponge can be used to create squares, rectangles or a checkerboard.
  • You can dab or twist the edge of the sponge rather than dragging or swiping it, to crate lots of interesting patterns.

In case you missed it, here are the other technique swap tutorials I’ve shared: Rolling Marble BackgroundFaux Silk, Tearing Cardstock/DSP, Colouring Ribbon,Stampin’ Spots Background, and stamping with bleach.

Until next time, happy crafting!
